MIDFOIL charterers have included:

  • National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)/Direct Technologies
  • U.S. Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) – retrieve submarine transponder buoys 120nm offshore
  • Oceanic Imaging Consultants – seafloor mapping
  • University of Hawaii – buoy deployment and retrieval
  • Exponent Inc. – deploy sonar buoys

Exponent, Inc.
Chartered MIDFOIL twice to deploy sonar buoys and conduct sonar testing with US Navy submarines at PMRF off Kauai.  MIDFOIL transited to Kauai from Oahu, moored and departed daily from Port Allen.  The speed of the vessel allowed customer to get to and return from the operations site daily instead of staying at sea.

“I wanted to take the time to extend a very sincere "Thanks" from the Exponent Team that was supported by your MIDFOIL crew, and you company.  It is very apparent that professionalism is a cornerstone of your organization, and it was that very character trait that Captain "Fikes" Mauia, Eric Koch (Engineer), and Scott Jose (First Mate) displayed during the entire four days of testing that contributed immeasurably to the overall success of the test.  Additionally, I have been instructed by the program manager, Murray Dunn, to insure that we contract with Navatek again for our next two tests in Kauai using the MIDFOIL.
– Cyle Fena, Military Adviser, Exponent, Inc.

Direct Technologies, Inc. /NOAA
Chartered MIDFOIL to track the sewage outfall plume off Oahu.  The MIDFOIL departed daily from Honolulu harbor to the work areas offshore.  Numerous buoys were deployed with turbidity measurement equipment and GPS position recorders.  The information gathered was used to validate satellite imaging tools that are used to track outfall plumes worldwide.  The charter ran for approximately one month with the boat getting underway about every other day.

“Thank you for your and Navatek's role in the successful completion of the Navy's RASP 04 experiment.  A field test of this complexity and duration requires the dedicated participation of many people. You have
every right to be proud of the outstanding effort offered by Fikes and his crew. The MIDFOIL performed extremely well.  Our work could not have been accomplished without you and your team. Thank you once again on behalf of the Navy and the entire RASP Team!
– John Burdette RASP 04 Test Director NAVAIR
